New Zealand Media and Entertainment (NZME) is celebrating a huge award haul at tonight’s New Zealand Radio and Podcast Awards, taking out seven of the ten premier awards and winning a range of accolades across radio, podcasting, sales, digital, marketing, sponsorship and integration.
Newstalk ZB – the country’s top news commercial radio station* - took out several awards including the coveted Station of the Year – Network, with top rating host Mike Hosking maintaining his position as Best Talk Presenter for Breakfast or Drive, with Mike Hosking Breakfast also picking up Best Show Producer or Producing Team - Talk Show. Marcus Lush was named joint Best Talk Presenter – Non-Breakfast or Drive for the eighth consecutive year.
Off the back of strong results in the latest Gfk Commercial Radio Survey, music radio station ZM dominated across several categories with Fletch, Vaughan & Hayley recognised as Best Music Network Breakfast Show and ZM’s global viral sensation ‘Girl Math’ clinching the renowned Blackie Award. ZM Content Director Ross Flahive took out Best Content Director/Content Team. Coast’s Lorna Riley took out joint Best Music Network Host.
Mike Regal, Radio Wanaka host and General Station Manager was recognised for his significant contribution and input into the country’s radio industry, receiving the prestigious Outstanding Contribution To Radio award. Jenny Mulligan and Tim Dower were also recognised for Services to Broadcasting.
NZME’s podcast network made a strong showing with Tom Sainsbury’s Small Town Scandal securing Podcast of the Year and Radio Hauraki’s The Matt & Jerry Show winning Best Podcast by a Radio Show. NZ Herald Podcast Network’s Ethan Sills took out Best Podcast Producer or Producing Team. NZME’s Christchurch sales team was named Sales Team of the Year.
Jason Winstanley, NZME’s Chief Audio Officer says he’s thrilled with this year’s wins.
“I’m so proud of our team at NZME for a fantastic result tonight. The breadth of our award wins really showcases the talent we have across NZME not just in our teams that produce excellent radio, digital audio and podcasts each and every day, but the people across the business that support them to succeed. Congrats to all finalists and winners tonight and a big thanks to the Radio Broadcasters’ Association for their huge efforts in pulling together such a great event to showcase and celebrate the strength of audio in New Zealand.”
Michael Boggs, NZME CEO says the awards are a celebration of the incredible talent and creativity across New Zealand’s radio industry, highlighting the power of audio for both audiences and advertisers.
“While we compete hard every day, coming together to celebrate our people as an industry is always an annual highlight. I’m so proud of our awesome NZME team – to see such a wide range of awards not only across our news, music and sport radio and digital audio networks, but also celebrating our teams across the business that help further drive that success. At NZME we are driven by our goal to be number one in audio, and tonight’s celebration certainly shows how strong our offering is across all our audio platforms.
“Of course, we wouldn’t be celebrating accolades like this without our loyal audiences and advertisers. Thank you to the 9 out of 10 Kiwis+ who choose to listen, read or engage through NZME’s radio, print or digital platforms. And a huge thanks to our valued agency clients and advertising partners for choosing NZME to showcase your brands and your businesses – we really value your support,” he says.
