New Zealand Media and Entertainment (NZME) has today announced the promotion of senior correspondent Dileepa Fonseka to Deputy Editor of BusinessDesk, its specialist digital business news platform.
Fonseka is a respected voice on New Zealand’s political economy, offering regular analysis, insights and commentary, and leading BusinessDesk’s election coverage. Readers will also know him for his popular weekend column, ‘On the Money’.
Fonseka will work alongside BusinessDesk Publisher Matt Martel and its Editor Victoria Young, as part of the senior leadership team.
BusinessDesk Editor Victoria Young says the publication continues to go from strength to strength, reaching more readers than ever before, and Fonseka is the right person to help lead it into its next phase.
“We have big plans for BusinessDesk’s growth, and Dileepa’s appointment is a key part of that. He brings sharp news judgement, a deep understanding of where politics and the economy meet, and a real commitment to quality journalism. I’m thrilled to have him alongside me as we build on our success,” Young says.
Fonseka says he is looking forward to helping shape the publication’s future.
“I’m proud to be taking on this role. BusinessDesk has an exceptional team and a unique place in New Zealand’s media landscape. We’ve built something strong, and I’m excited about where we can take it next, with even more ambitious journalism and stories that make a real difference to our readers,” he says.
Fonseka’s promotion comes at an exciting time for BusinessDesk, which recently hosted its second CEO Index Awards and last week launched its new and improved website and app.
