iHeartRadio releases second season of Tom Sainsbury hit podcast Small Town Scandal

Multi-talented comedian, actor, writer, and filmmaker Tom Sainsbury is back with the highly anticipated second season of hit mockumentary podcast Tom Sainsbury’s Small Town Scandal on iHeartRadio - New Zealand Media and Entertainment’s (NZME) digital audio platform.

In the first season, lead character Toby Buchanan became a local celebrity by solving the murder of his uncle Mitch in the small, tight-knit, fictional New Zealand town, Te Hoiho.

Season two sees Toby trying to lead a quiet life with his girlfriend, crafting ads for the local car dealer. However, his peace is disrupted when a mysterious package arrives, directing him to the small beach town of Ruatuna. Unable to resist another mystery, Toby investigates and finds a town full of small-town characters who are all as suspicious as each other.

As the voice of all 40 characters in the hilarious podcast, Sainsbury ensures fans that the eight-part second season will bring even more scandal and laughter.

"I absolutely love the quirky charm of small-town New Zealand, and getting to share all those wonderful characters with listeners last season was an absolute delight. As we dive into season two, I'm looking forward to kicking it up a notch with another quirky bunch of characters bringing more laughs, unexpected twists, and scandalous shenanigans,” he says.

iHeartRadio Content Director, Sam Collins, says after a highly successful first season, NZME is excited to be rewarding fans with a second season.

"Tom Sainsbury’s Small Town Scandal season one was a real hit with more than 150,000* total downloads and debuting in the Top 20 of the Triton NZ Podcast Ranker**. Tom’s unique approach to comedy and storytelling has struck a chord with listeners, making the podcast a standout in our diverse line-up,” says Collins.

James Butcher, NZME Head of Digital Audio says: "It’s great to offer our listeners another season of Tom Sainsbury’s Small Town Scandal via our NZME Podcast Network. We’re proud to have had the top podcast network in the country since the Triton NZ Podcast Ranker was introduced more than two years ago, and we value having a diverse library of podcasts for our audience of more than 1 million to choose from. Being number one in audio is one of NZME’s strategic priorities for 2024 and podcasting plays a big part in us achieving that goal, increasing engagement and offering our advertisers new opportunities to reach consumers,” says Butcher.
