Setting Up Facebook Ads
A step-by-step guide to creating and managing Facebook ad campaigns.
This article provides instructions on how to set up Facebook ads.
Step-by-Step Guide
- Log in to NZME Facebook account and go to the Ads Manager.
- Click on the "Create" button to create a new ad campaign.
- Choose your marketing objective. Facebook offers a variety of marketing objectives, such as brand awareness, reach, traffic, engagement, and conversions. Select the objective that best fits the client's advertising goals.
- Set your campaign budget. When you set a budget, its important to remember that this figure represents the maximum amount of money you want to spend. Set it up first on our Facebook Budget tracker to get the total budget of the campaign. Once you know that total budget for the ad, always set the budget to a lifetime budget, it will set the maximum that youll spend during the entire time you run your ad campaign.
- Set up your target audience. Define the audience you want to reach by selecting demographics, interests, behaviors, and locations. If the client requested to target audience, you can set it up on this area. Some clients may also request for detailed targeting like audience interest, behaviors, etc. You can choose it on this part.
- Choose your ad placement. When creating an ad on Facebook, you have the option to choose where it will appear, such as in the news feed, stories, or right column. To have more control over where your ad is shown, it's recommended to select Manual Placement. This way, Facebook will only deliver your ad to the placements you've chosen. If the client requested to boost on Facebook or IG only, you can easily just check and uncheck the placements.
- Create your ad creative. You can use an existing post or start from scratch. Choose the format of your ad, such as image, video, carousel, or collection. Write your ad copy and add your visuals. Check the Meta creative guidelines for design recommendation.
- Review and publish your ad. Preview your ad and make sure everything looks good. Then click the "Publish" button to launch your ad campaign.
- Check that the ad is running after a few hours or the next day.
DO NOT select these settings at ad level:
- Multiple Advertiser Ads (puts ads together with other advertisers ads)
- Advantage + creatives (changes ads with additional text/music)
You should add a UTM code to Facebook URLs
The UTM Code needs to have source=facebook and medium=ppc so it shows in the correct places for GA4 reporting. If the sales rep sends you a different UTM, tell them you will use this format instead. You can add additional elements if you want: campaign ID, campaign name. Don't use Campaign term or Campaign content.
