Newstalk ZB is looking for an experienced journalist to help lead its nationwide news team.

The Afternoon News Director is responsible for deciding news priorities and assigning staff to ensure Newstalk ZB and its Affiliate stations have accurate, timely and informative news bulletins. The ability to react instantly to and handle the pressure of breaking news is a must.

The role also involves liaising with our producers and identifying key interviews for our Drive and Breakfast shows.

You must be a news junkie, hungry for a scoop, an eye for a strong angle and an ear for good radio copy.

You will also need to be able to juggle numerous simultaneous tasks and be able to prioritise news stories.

People management skills are another must as you will need to liaise with, manage and coach staff.

As this is a hands-on role, you must also be able to write succinct radio copy, have a good on air voice and be able to report live and unscripted.
